Meet the Friends of St. Jude Birmingham Steering Committee

C. Meade Hartfield

A Mississippi native, Meade graduated from Mississippi State University with degrees in business, Spanish and economics. She received her law degree from the University of Mississippi. Meade practices law in Birmingham at Lightfoot, Franklin & White, LLC, focusing her practice on products liability, business litigation and environmental and toxic torts. Meade first became a St. Jude supporter in college where she served as philanthropy chair for her sorority Tri Delta. Thereafter, Meade helped forge the national partnership between Tri Delta and St. Jude. In 2000, St. Jude awarded Meade the Jerry Nicholson Award, an honor bestowed on the hospital’s national young volunteer of the year. Meade has also served St. Jude as an independent fundraising consultant, responsible for the 2002 Jackson, Mississippi and Mississippi Gulf Coast Dream Home projects, which raised over $1.3 million for the hospital.

Originally from Mobile, Alabama, Logan graduated from The University of the South (Sewanee) and received his graduate degree from the Owen School of Management at Vanderbilt University. He currently works as a financial analyst with Porter, White & Company in Birmingham. Logan learned about the life-saving treatments at St. Jude when his friend was diagnosed with cancer in high school and became a St. Jude patient.

John Allgood

A graduate of Washington & Lee University, John now works as a leasing agent for Central Leasing Corporation, a commercial finance firm. John is originally from Mobile, Alabama. John learned about the life-saving research at St. Jude when his high school classmate was treated at St. Jude. John is also a cancer survivor, recognizing the important role St. Jude plays in frontline research for a cure for the disease.

 John is originally from Birmingham. After attending the University of Alabama for both his graduate and undergraduate degrees, he moved back to Birmingham. He is currently employed in the Commercial Real Estate group at BBVA Compass. John sees Friends of St. Jude as a great way to give back to the community in Birmingham and beyond.

Originally from Cullman, Alabama, Jeremy is a graduate of Harvard University. He currently serves as Vice President of Operations of his family’s business HomTex, Inc., in Cullman, Alabama. Jeremy saw Friends of St. Jude as a worthy philanthropic endeavor and a great way to reconnect and build business with Birmingham’s young professionals.

Ruth Cole

Originally from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Ruth graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in accounting. She has worked in Washington, D.C., Nashville, Tennessee and now has chosen to raise her family in Birmingham, Alabama. Ruth currently works for Leader Marketing Solutions, here in Birmingham. Ruth became a supporter of St. Jude as an active collegiate member, an now alumna, of her sorority Tri Delta.

Originally from Prattville, Alabama, Rich graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with degrees in Business Administration and Biology. He also received his Masters of Science in Marketing from the University of Alabama. He currently works as an Account Executive with AT&T. Rich sees Friends of St. Jude as a great way to help eliminate childhood cancer and help build friendships here in Birmingham.

Christopher Wigfall

 A Birmingham native, Chris graduated from Jefferson State Community College with an Associate Degree in Business. After graduating, Chris went on to obtain his real estate license and is an agent for RealtySouth, Inc. at it’s Inverness Office, specializing in residential and investment properties. He is also a co-owner of ConsideredItSold LLC, a real estate investment company. Chris joined Friends of St. Jude to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps as a strong supporter of St. Jude.

A native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Sadie received her degree in Business Administration from Birmingham Southern College. She currently works as an Account Executive at Intermark Advertising, in Birmingham, Alabama. Sadie saw Friends of St. Jude as a great vehicle to combine her support for curing catastrophic childhood illnesses and her desire to expand her social and professional network in the Birmingham area.

Parrish Taylor
PR/Communications Co-Chair

Parrish works for Harbert Realty Services, founding and leading the team that provides growing restaurant concepts with site selection services all over the country. Parrish grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, and went to Hampden-Sydney College, before eventually settling in Birmingham. While in high school, Parrish was diagnosed with stage III Hodgkin’s Disease, and underwent a treatment regimen of chemotherapy and radiation at St. Jude. Now cancer-free and a happy parent himself, Parrish uses every opportunity to share with others the lifesaving work completed at St. Jude.

Clint DeShazo
Signature Event Co-Chair

A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Clint attended Auburn University, where he was a scholarship athlete on the school’s nationally recognized swim team. He is a founding member of Select My Space, Inc., a real estate locating service, and currently works in business development for the company. Clint is also the founder of the Birmingham-based moving company Lift. Clint views Friends of St. Jude as a great way to build social and professional relationships, to support a special cause, and, of course, to have fun.

Heather Castle

A Virginia native, Heather grew up in Tuscaloosa, AL and graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in finance. She is currently working on her Certified Financial Planning designation as well as a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Alabama. Heather works as a financial advisor with Morgan Keegan & Company in Birmingham. She saw Friends of St. Jude as a way to make a positive impact in the lives of children while networking with other young professionals.

Lindsey Sanders

A native of Brundidge, AL, Lindsey received her degree in Exercise Science from Auburn University. She currently resides in Birmingham and works with Aerotek as an Environmental, Engineering and Scientific Recruiter. Lindsey became involved with Friends of St. Jude in Birmingham to support the hospital and raise awareness about the research conducted to help cure childhood diseases.

Nancy Powers

A Mississippi native, Nancy graduated from the University of Mississippi where she obtained a degree in English with a minor in Business Administration. She currently lives in Birmingham and is in her second year at Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law. Nancy sees Friends of St. Jude as a great way to give back to the community in Birmingham, meet fellow young professionals and help eliminate childhood cancer.

John T. Bird
At-Large Steering Committee Member
A graduate of Dartmouth College, John is active in numerous civic and philanthropic endeavors in the Birmingham community. By trade, John is a writer and editor. He has authored the Baseball Hall-of-Famer memoir Twin Killing: The Bill Mazeroski Story(1995) and Fuchsia Shock (2007), a fully illustrated watercolor word book. John is an ardent supporter of the research and treatment provided by St. Jude.
